ARC is preparing for the National Disability Insurance Scheme

As of the 1st of July 2016, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will commence rolling out over Australia.

A number of locations have already undertaken early launches, based on specific cohorts of individuals, and in the case of the ACT, the whole of disability services. The big question is what that means for ARC, and those who access ARC’s Services?

The quick and easy answer is: Initially nothing! ARC will continue to operate in the current capacity providing quality supports and services. The National Disability Insurance Scheme will not roll out in Cairns until 1 July 2018. At this time, individuals will have the ability to meet with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) planners, and the model of support will change, to one with more choice and control for people with a disability.

As the date of 1 July 2018 moves closer, ARC will continue to share information around the changes within the sector, and suggestions on how we all can be ready for the NDIS. Client Service Coordinators will be available to answer any questions Service Users may have, and if they don’t know the answer, ARC will be able to at least help point in the right direction. Another good resource is the NDIA’s website http://www.ndis.gov.au/

ARC will continue to share information as we receive it, as we face the ‘Greatest social reform since Medicare’. Please feel free to share with us your experiences as we navigate the next few years.

Until Next Time – Benjamin Keast - CEO
