Moving into ndis supported accommodation? here is your top 3 questions answered

As we start to see the rollout of the NDIS in Cairns, North Queensland for people with a disability, plans can now include funding for you to move into your very own place, otherwise known as supported accommodation.

This is an exciting time for you and your family! but before you pack your bags and spread your wings, here are 5 questions to ask, and we're here to help answer them!

Number 1: Do I get to choose my own house?
Answer: Although you won't get to choose your house, you can tell your plan manager if there is anything you don't think would be suitable: EG lots of stairs, bright lights. You can also mention things you would like to find in a house like an outdoor area or a bathtub. Think about how some home features will help reach your NDIS goals and chat to your plan manager about your ideas.

Number 2: Can I choose who I live with?
So, you have a friend who has also been allocated funding for supported accommodation. As awesome as it sounds to become housemates you need to think about how their needs may be different than yours. To make sure everyone has their needs fully met you are matched with housemates with similar requirements to you. Cairns may be small, but there are always new friends to be made. See this as a great opportunity!

Number 3: Can I have friends and family visit?
Of course you can! Because you will likely live with other people you need to think about how visitors can affect your housemates. Don't worry, this doesn't mean you can't have fun with your friends.. just no drumming parties at 10PM on a Monday night!

We don't doubt you still have a list of questions. That's why you should subscribe to our mailing list, so we can share tips, tricks and answer all your burning questions.
